I remember learning in an undergraduate psychology course (focused on race, sex and gender) how to look at the division of stereotypes and roles following this "formula" of sorts:
majority man body white able-bodied cisgendered
minority woman mind non-white disabled queer
Of course, much like the gender binary, it goes on and is far more complex than the simple items I have laid out, but again and as always - I am neither a professor nor an educator.
There is the belief that in order to be considered a, 'real woman', I am expected to perform femininity without causing disruption. Prioritizing thought and consciousness over a body which is to be seen in its blatant, objectified state, but never heard or observed abstractly.
Never constantly aligned with just being human.
Never constantly aligned with just being human.
I'm unsure as to what has triggered this introspection - truth be told I have been devoid of any creative juices for quite some time now (damn that 9-5) - but I find there to be a quiet irony in this thinking.
I believe women to be far stronger than we often give ourselves credit for.
I believe all minority to be a testament to strength and courage as - more often than not - we have been obligated to prove our personhood.
We may come out of the other side with detrimental effects, yes
*stares forlornly into the abyss*
but also with great tenacity.
Whether that be manifested in physical strength, emotional strength, mental strength, etc., I often look at the women who I surround myself with and take great pride in witnessing their ability to rise above any occasion.
To exceed expectation tenfold.
Obviously, this is a result of generational efforts.
Never forget trauma is inherited, strength is built.
I know, this is a meandering post but I just want all my ladies to know how great they are and can be!
It's already in us, we've just gotta harness it!
So please, I beg of every individual who identifies as a woman, please recognize your greatness - your strengthso we can begin our world domination!
So please, I beg of every individual who identifies as a woman, please recognize your greatness - your strength
Beyoncé has been telling women this for nearly a decade now, it's high time we actually started believing and listening to it.
I feel like that weirdo girl from Mean Girls who just wanted everyone to bake a cake made out of rainbows, sunflowers and other My Little Pony sh*t.
